University

Opportunity —
the chance to meet a potential in yourself that you have not yet discovered.

That is how we read the word that the University of Wolverhampton carries on its crest,
and by which it calls itself "the University of Opportunity".

1827 is where it began.
Its true character lies in how it has kept changing.

The University of Wolverhampton began in 1827, in a town of the Industrial Revolution, as the Tradesmen and Mechanics' Institute — a place where working tradesmen and mechanics found the learning they needed for their work and their lives. In 1933, as it set out as a technical college, it pledged to open the opportunity to study higher education even to those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. Opening learning to working people — that ethos lives on in the University today.

Yet the right tense for this University is not the past. For nearly two hundred years it has kept changing its form to meet the needs of its time, and it is changing still — that is its present tense.

It keeps the centre of its teaching and research where management meets technology. It keeps investing in the future, and today its strategy carries the words "Creating Opportunity, Transforming Futures". This University's tradition is not a style; it is the capacity to keep changing.

Learning for changing times, with a University that has itself kept changing. This University has opened learning to working people and kept changing its form — and we chose it as the destination of the path we open from Japan. Our philosophies were facing the same way.

Those who have chosen the same challenge

This University has long welcomed adults who return to learning mid-career, of their own will. Its graduates are spread across 130 countries around the world.

The line you join, studying in Japan, is that of adults who — somewhere in the world, with work and responsibility of their own — have chosen the same challenge.

Studying in Japan while working, you are not an exception in this University's postgraduate community, but part of its mainstream.

And, should you wish, on graduation day — on the University's campus in Britain — you will wear the same gown as they do.

People set their own limits by assumption

Human potential should, by nature, have no fixed limit. And yet, somewhere along the way, we draw our own limit line and stop inside it. Business leaders and those responsible for organisations are no exception — if anything, the more a person carries, the firmer that line becomes.

Study at master's level is a place for crossing that line.

Taking your own business as the subject, you write it through in the same language as the world. You answer world-standard questions with all your experience and intellect. It will probably be a time you look back on as the hardest you have ever studied. It is demanding. But there are things that happen only within that demand — you notice a potential in yourself that you had not seen until yesterday.

Each time you notice, the limit line is redrawn. And people begin to look forward to their own future.

We understand this to be the experience the University has called "Opportunity". This University has long called itself "the University of Opportunity". To those who believe in their own potential and take on the challenge, it has kept responding — changing its form as it goes.

And here, the environment of a University that is investing in research in cyber security and AI meets the support we give, through which you learn how to work with generative AI. A form of learning for an age in which technology widens the intellectual limits of people — that is what we are setting out to realise in this programme.

This path did not come about by chance

The features of this programme are not a set of separate "services". Each part of the path is held by a different organisation, and because each faces the same way, they connect as one path.

University of Wolverhampton — responding to potential

"Creating Opportunity, Transforming Futures." A University that keeps responding to those who believe in their own potential and take on the challenge, and that keeps investing in the future. That is why its International MBA opens a way to study online, and welcomes those taking on a challenge mid-career as part of its mainstream.

Chestnut Education Group — removing the barriers

"Making quality higher education accessible to everyone, by removing the geographical, economic and cultural barriers in its way." Holding that vision, this London-based education group designs and runs progression routes to British universities. The materials and dedicated tutor for Solo, and the application work. It closes the distance between you and the British system through practical work.

Shibuya Web3 University Co., Ltd. — supporting you as you go beyond your limits

A company whose core business is branding, and which itself carries out the social implementation of technology. It runs the Class lectures in Japanese, and through the academic-skills coaching in Japanese it trains the form of academic practice and how to work with generative AI — supporting you all the way through a challenge of fifteen months at most, in which you keep redrawing your own limit line.

A University that responds to potential. An organisation that removes the barriers. Us, supporting you as you go beyond your limits. Without any one of these three roles, the challenge of completing a British university's postgraduate degree, while working, from Japan, would not become real.

For the record, here are the facts of the system, set out so that they can be verified. The University of Wolverhampton is recognised in UK law as a degree-awarding institution (a Recognised Body), and is registered with the Office for Students (OfS), the regulator of higher education. Anyone can verify its registration on the official register of the Office for Students (OfS) — the check-point officially signposted by GOV.UK, the UK government's website.

EduQual, which awards the Stage 1 Diploma, is a UK awarding organisation approved by SQA Accreditation, a UK qualifications regulator, and the qualification sits at Level 11 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) — at master's level within the UK frameworks (equivalent to RQF Level 7).

For those without a bachelor's degree, too, there is a route to apply through at least five years of management experience. For details, please see Program and Apply.

Those words are on your degree certificate, too

The degree awarded on completion is the International Master of Business Administration. At the top of the degree certificate sits the University's crest, and on it are the words that capture the spirit of the University in a single phrase — Innovation and Opportunity.

They become the proof of the potential you met in this challenge of fifteen months at most.

You may receive your degree certificate at the graduation ceremony on the University's campus in Britain, or by post. Whichever you choose, the degree awarded is the same.
